Move Database Path in Exchange 2013

Exchange 2013 has a limitation in moving the Database path location you can only use Exchange Management Shell to move the database and log file path, before we used to have an option to use EMC or EMS

Lets start using EMS

Create a separate partition for DB and Log files

79

Open EMS and check the current EDB & Log file Location by using CMD

74

Get-MailboxDatabase “database name” | FL Name,*path*

75

We are moving our current db path from C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0164909908\Mailbox Database 0164909908.edb   to  E:\DB01\Mailbox Database 0164909908.edb

Use the following CMD  Move-databasepath

Move-databasepath -identity “Database Name” -EDBFilePath “C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\Mailbox Database 0164909908\Mailbox Database 0164909908.edb” -LogFolderPath “E:\DB01”

80

Prompt you to confirm

The database gets dismount and Copied to new location

After moving verified its moved sucessfully

81

As you can see there EDB File path and Log File path has been changed to E:\DB01

you are done with this.

  1. Microsoft Exchange PowerShell has become one of the most important skills for an Exchange administrator to learn, you can customize configurations from EMS which you cannot perform from Earlier EMC Console.
